It’s that time of year when people are decking the halls and waiting for the big guy in red to come to town. It’s also that time of year when many students (and parents) spread some holiday cheer by giving gifts to much loved teachers. The gifts received can run the gamut of thoughtful, functional, fanciful, and occasionally comical.
As shoppers head out in search of the perfect treasure for giving, adding some new lyrics to an old favorite may offer a little insight for making a teacher’s spirits bright. While it truly is the thought that counts, a few useful ideas are always helpful. Here are 12 of them that will make this the most wonderful time of the year for well-deserving teachers!
During the twelve days of Christmas my students gave to me:
12 Assorted Sharpies
11 Stacks of Post-Its
10 New Class Novels
9 Expo Markers
8 Packs of Stickers
7 Scented Lotions
6 Dining Gift Cards
5 Teacher Mugs! (Just kidding, but a gift card for filling one = perfection!)
4 Fun Notepads
3 Sweet Treats
2 Movie Passes
1 Personal Letter to Read!
Any gift is generous, and gifts from the heart are especially memorable. It’s not about the money spent, but it’s the thought behind what’s given that has the largest impact. A personal note is a very generous stand-alone gift or a wonderful accompaniment to any other item(s). When students know a favorite color, team, hobby, etc., that always adds a thoughtful touch to a gift as well.
Finding the perfect teacher gift doesn’t have to be stressful. Humming a few bars of a classic carol and adjusting the lyrics can lead to some great options. Letting teachers know they are appreciated is truly the greatest gift of all!
