Lawrence has been in education since 1992. He began as an outdoor education facilitator and staff development consultant for school administration, staff, newly formed committees, special task groups, and corporate management teams. He earned his M.E. in Special Education in 1999 and has been a middle school teacher ever since.
Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics awarded Lawrence Outstanding Elementary Math Teacher of 2010. He was recognized for utilizing creative teaching techniques such as appearing as Mental Math Man…(cape and all). He was also 2011 Citizen of the Year in Bay Village, Ohio for his work as Executive Director of Bay Skate & Bike Park Foundation, which raised over $100,000 to build a skate & bike park in his community.
Lawrence worked at Matènwa Community Learning Center in LaGonave, Haiti in 2011 to help math teachers/students improve instruction/learning through the use of games, manipulatives, and technology. He has also served as a technology trainer and mentor for his school district for many years.
Lawrence is one of the founding fathers of Ray's Indoor Mtn. Bike Park in Cleveland, OH. He is also the middle school director of Bike To School Challenge, which encourages students and staff to ride their bikes on a daily basis. When he's not riding in the woods, he's spending time with his wife and three daughters, coaching volleyball, or working on his 1949 F1 Pick-Up.
