Wife and mother of five, Tonya joins the Align, Assess, Achieve team after sixteen years in education. Tonya's classroom experience includes teaching both kindergarten and first grade. She served as an at-risk literacy tutor, Title I literacy and math teacher, literacy coach, and served as an Assistant Principal for six years.
Tonya's passion for literacy extends beyond the classroom. Upon the adoption of her oldest son, her "whatever it takes" philosophy kept her up late into the evening most nights, trying to uncover a system for learning that worked for him. This experience set the stage for her work with at-risk readers for the next fifteen years. Tonya specializes in working with students who have both academic and behavioral challenges. She enjoys working side by side- coaching teachers and students to develop a literacy workshop model where teachers and students thrive.
During her time in administration, Tonya helped facilitate professional development in formative assessment, Response to Intervention, student data analysis, and writing targeted learning goals for students.
In her free time, Tonya enjoys watching her very active children in their many sporting events, theatre productions, orchestra concerts and spending time with their new puppy!
